maker of many "collectible" dolls started advertising Gene in doll magazines
(with a mail-in card!) my reaction, as 
well as the reaction of many
veteran collectors was "so what???" Well, after six full years with Gene,
the reaction is definitely no longer "so what!!" Gene is a hot collectible
doll, because of the original 40s look to the doll, the numerous high-quality,
well-accessorized outfits available for her, and the relatively low price-points on the
doll and outfits.
It is the combination of quality, beauty and value which have made Gene such a hot doll, along with one other fabulous fact--she does NOT suffer from the NRFB syndrome of Barbie. You can take her out of her very plain cardboard boxes and display or gently play with her, and you haven't destroyed her "value."
