DON'T MISS: |
Sewing and crafting has a strong family history. My paternal grandfather, Nicholas Di Lello, was a sample tailor for the House of Christian Dior. My mother was a seamstress. I, unfortunately, rebelled at an early age, and did not start to learn to sew until my adult years. I am a typical baby boomer, born in 1961, and heavily influenced by Barbie and other fashion dolls of the 1960s, although I also adore the older antique dolls because of the history and quality of production and the beauty of the vintage materials used to create them. Since 1993, I have studied porcelain dollmaking with Margaret Wolfe, the proprietor of Margaret Anne's Porcelain Doll Artistry in El Segundo, California. I have taken classes in German and French reproduction dolls, wigging, shoemaking, hatmaking, china dolls, parian dolls, and victorian ribbonwork, and I am now a Certified Doll Artisan with Seeleys I currently take care of my marvelous family, and I am the Guide for Dolls at About.com. When time permits, I write on dolls and miniatures for various magazines, teach, and lecture. And, of course, I run Denise Van Patten Dolls. Thanks for visiting with me!
